The President of the Republic of Ghana has in accordance with the advice of the Governing Council of the Ghana Health Service and in consultation with the Public Services Commission appointed Dr. Anthony Adofo Ofosu as the new Deputy Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Dr. Ofosu replaces Dr. Gloria Quansah Asare, the former Deputy Director General, who proceeded on compulsory retirement from the Service in March 2019.
Dr. Ofosu is a public health physician with over twenty five years of experience in the public health sector, twenty three of which has been in senior management and leadership position of the service.
Prior to this new appointment, Dr. Ofosu was the Deputy Director for Information, Monitoring and Evaluation Department under the Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ghana Health Service, a position he held since 2012. In this position, he was instrumental in improving the health information system of Ghana, which included leading in the nationwide roll-out of the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS 2) to collect all routine health services data as well as other innovations aimed at improving the quality of routine health service data. He had previously served at various levels of the Ghana Health Service including, being a Medical Superintendant in a district hospital and as a District Director of Health Services in two rural districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Dr. Ofosu obtained his Master of Science Degree in Epidemiology from the University of London. He also has an International Health Certificate from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, and a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of Ghana School of Public Health. He holds an MB ChB from University of Ghana Medical School (1992). Dr. Ofosu is a fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (2012).
Dr. Adofo Ofosu was appointed and assigned this new role on the 17th of September 2019 and he is expected to work with all regional directors and staff of the Ghana Health Service.
