The outgoing Director of the Navrongo Health Research Centre has paid separate visits to the Regional Director of Health Services of the Upper East Region, Dr Emmanuel Kofi Dzotsi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal, Mr. William Addum and the Navro-Pio, Pe Denis Asagpaare Aneakwoa II to bid them farewell after completing his tenure as Director of the Navrongo Health Research Centre. The visits took place on the 11th and 12th May respectively. The outgoing Director also used the opportunity to introduce the incoming Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. Patrick Ansah to them.
The visits were part of activities to mark the official handing over of the Centre to the current leadership under Dr. Patrick Ansah.
Dr. Abraham Oduro’s first point of call was to the Regional Health Directorate in Bolgatanga where he interacted with Dr. Dzotsi and some management members of the Directorate. Dr. Oduro said the visit was to bid the Regional Director farewell and to inform him that he was handing over the NHRC to Dr. Patrick Ansah. He said he had assumed full responsibility as the
Director of the Research and Development Division (RDD) at the Ghana Health Service Headquarters in Accra. Dr. Oduro explained that even though the appointment at the RDD was made in November 2020, the official handing over activities of the Centre could not take place immediately due to the covid-19 outbreak and other unforeseen circumstances. The outgoing Director of the NHRC thanked the Regional Director and staff at the Directorate for supporting the research activities of the Centre over the years. He also acknowledged previous Regional Health Directors of the region who have contributed significantly to the growth of the Navrongo Health Research Centre. In his remarks, Dr. Emmanuel Dzotsi, thanked Dr. Oduro for his significant contribution to the NHRC. He was hopeful that with his experience in research and management, Dr. Oduro will use his new role as Director of the Research and Development Division (RDD) at the Headquarters to improve the fortunes of health research in the country. Dr. Dzotsi assured Dr. Oduro that his office will continue to work closely with the Navrongo Health Research Centre to fulfil its mandate.
Similarly, Dr. Abraham Oduro expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal, Mr. William Aduum for the level of support and cooperation the Centre enjoys from him. He was hopeful that the collaboration with his office will be sustained to benefit the people of the Kassena-Nankana Municipality and adjoining areas. In his response, the MCE observed that since the establishment of the Centre, the people of the Kassena-Nankana area and beyond have benefited from the services of the Centre. According to him, apart from the research being conducted by the Centre, which has led to the improvement of the people’s health status, the Centre has also contributed to develop the human resource capacity of most of its current and former staff who are contributing to national development at various levels. Mr. Aduum assured Dr. Oduro that the Assembly will continue to support the Centre to continue its good works.
In showing his appreciation for his work, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kassena-Nankana presented a smock to Dr. Oduro and wished him well in his new role.
Dr. Abraham Oduro’s last call was to the Navro-Pio in his palace. In expressing his gratitude to the Navro-Pio, Pe Denis Asagpaare Aneakwoa II, Dr. Oduro said the support from the chiefs and people of the Navrongo traditional area since the inception of the Centre has been crucial to the Centre’s development. He recounted the humble beginnings of the Centre and the contributions of the late Navro-Pio, Pe Dr. A.B Adda towards the Centre’s establishment. Additionally, he acknowledged the cordial relationship between the current chief and his elders with the Centre and prayed for the sustenance of such collaboration. On his part, the Navro-Pio thanked Dr. Abraham Oduro for dedicating most part of his active working live to serving the Navrongo Health Research Centre. He urged him to continue his good works at the Research and Development Division to improve research activities in the country. The Navro-Pio prayed for the ancestors of Navrongo to guide and direct Dr. Oduro in his future endeavours and wished him well.
The Navro-Pio later presented a smock to Dr. Oduro for his good works.
The outgoing Director was accompanied by the incoming Acting Director and some of his management team members, including, the Administrator, Mrs. Andriana Sumboh, Head of Finance, Mr. Jonas Dakurah and the Head of the Social Science Department, Dr. Evelyn Sakeah.
