Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, a Senior Public Health Specialist is the new Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), following the withdrawal of the appointment of Dr. Baffour Awuah.
Communicating the appointment in a letter dated 25th November 2019 to all Regional Directors of Health and Directors at the GHS Headquarters, Dr. Anthony Adofo- Ofosu, Deputy Director General of the Ghana Health Service said, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has been appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana to head the Ghana Health Service in an acting capacity, pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing council of the Service, given in consultation with the Public Service Commission effective date 25th November 2019”.
Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye replaces Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the immediate past Director General of Ghana Health Service who has been re-assigned by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana as the Presidential Advisor of Health.
Prior to this new appointment, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye was the Director for Family Health Division of the Ghana Health Service, a position he has held since 2014.
