OVERVIEW OF THE CLINICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
The Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) at the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) serves as a leading hub for high-quality clinical research aimed at improving health outcomes in Ghana and beyond. Established to support the Centre’s mission of conducting innovative and impactful health research, the CTC provides the infrastructure, technical expertise, and ethical oversight necessary for the successful implementation of clinical trials. Its mandate is to support investigators conducting Clinical Trials in the Centre to conduct such trials per the applicable regulatory requirements and local laws.
The Clinical Trials Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by a multidisciplinary team of experienced scientists, clinicians, laboratory personnel, and support staff. Together, they ensure that trials are conducted to the highest standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), while contributing to global efforts in evidence-based health innovations.
Core mandates
- To generate and apply the best possible Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for improving the conduct of Clinical Trials and patient care.
- To fulfill the regulatory requirements that Clinical Trials are conducted in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- To set out the standards and responsibilities for investigators to apply in clinical research.
- To improve research quality and safeguard the public by enhancing ethical, scientific and data quality, promoting good practice, adequate documentation and reporting of adverse events.
- Ensuring lessons learned from trials are transferred to other studies and future trials.
- Preventing poor performance and misconduct
- To build the capacity of our staff through internal and external training.
