NAVRONGO HEALTH RESEARCH CENTRE AND CKT-UTAS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH EXPLORE COLLABORATIVE FRONTIERS FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

In a keynote speech delivered by Professor James Akazili during the 2024 Annual General Review Meeting (NHRCASRM2024) of the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC), the distinguished professor highlighted the imperative role of research centres and academia in addressing contemporary challenges.

The keynote address which was on the theme, “Exploring the Synergies Between Health Research and Academia for Exellence in Tertiary Education”, emphasized the global call for collaboration, transcending geographical and disciplinary boundaries to find effective solutions to issues like climate change, global health crises, and limited health funding.

Professor Akazili underscored the pivotal role of academia in equipping the next generation with tools, skills, and knowledge to navigate a dynamic world marked by technological revolutions and complex challenges. He pointed out the power of academia to nurture curiosity, cultivate critical thinking, and bridge the gap between theory and practice.

In his speech, he highlighted the indispensable impact of health research centres by drawing out their role in advancing knowledge, promoting innovation and addressing specific health research challenges within focused areas.

Professor Akazili transitioned to the core of the keynote speech by exploring the mutually beneficial collaboration between academia and research centres. He articulated seven thematic areas for the potential collaboration between NHRC and the CKT-UTAS School of Public Health.

They included funding and grant application, knowledge transfer, professional development, talent exchange, publication and recognition, technology transfer and network and collaboration opportunities.

Professor Akazili concluded by emphasizing the numerous mutual benefits between academia and research centres in contributing to the advancement of knowledge, innovation and the development of practical solutions. He expressed hope for enriching discussions and collaborations to solidify collective efforts in promoting research growth.

The collaborative frontiers explored in this speech open new possibilities for NHRC and the CKT-UTAS School of Public Health, marking a significant step towards advancing research and innovation in the health sector.
