NHRC DONATES TO NAVRONGO PRISONS

The Navrongo Health Research Centre on the 20th of May, 2022 donated medical supplies to the Navrongo Prisons Service to help cater for the medical needs of inmates.
The donation was made in response to a request by the Navrongo Prisons Service for medical supplies to stock their infirmary which was almost depleted at the time of the donation. The items donated by the Centre include; packets of amoxycillin and flucloxacillin capsules, several packets of amoxiclav, ciprofloxacin, paracetamol, vermox and diclofenac tablets. Others were nifedipine and buscopam/hyoscine tablets, triple action cream, gentian violet, methylated spirits, oral rehydration solution, gloves, bandages and cotton wool.
The infirmary of the Navrongo Prisons Service provides immediate medical assistance to all officers on operational duties, creates health awareness in the prison, and gives medical support to inmates in prison custody. The infirmary has however run out of supplies to keep up with the health needs of the prison.
The Regional Commander of the Prisons Service, Upper East Region, Mr. Yakubu Ibrahim expressed delight at the prompt response by NHRC to donate items in respect of the request and remarked that the kind gesture of the Centre will significantly help the infirmary in dispensing treatment to inmates. While indicating that the prison is in dire need of medical supplies, Mr. Yakubu stated; “Some of these inmates are here today, tomorrow they might be your neighbours, so it is necessary to treat them before they become carriers and distributors of health complications”.
The Assistant Chief Officer-in-charge of the infirmary, Peace Afidanso also expressed gratitude to the Centre for the donation and noted that the infirmary needs to be stocked to meet up with the daily health needs in the prison.
The deputy administrator of the Navrongo Health Research Centre, James Sumbali and the Clinical Research Coordinator of the Clinical Science Department, Denis Azabra Awuni presented the donation on behalf of the Centre.
