NHRC STAFF ATTEND ANNUAL NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC DISSEMINATION

The heads of department and project coordinators of the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) attended the Annual National Scientific Dissemination which took place at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Accra from 5th to 6th May 2022.
The Annual National Scientific Dissemination, which was under the auspices of the Research and Development Division (RDD) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) provides a platform for researchers and scientists to share their research findings with a large audience and an opportunity to align the findings to policy and practical implications with an overarching aim of generating evidence to support and improve health service delivery.
A total of 33 oral presentations based on four sub-themes namely; health policy, health management, information systems and health care workers’ education were showcased at the dissemination. Out of the 33 presentations, 6 oral presentations were made by the NHRC team including 4 poster presentations.
Discussions at the forum revealed that various studies conducted by the research centres have generated evidence-based findings and policy recommendations that are critical to the growth of the health sector. In view of this, the forum resolved to collaborate more with the relevant institutions and authorities to implement research findings to improve health outcomes in the country.
The RDD was set up with the mandate to facilitate capacity development for the conduct of research and the subsequent utilization of research results at all levels of the health sector in Ghana. In realizing this mandate, the RDD organizes the well-attended Annual National Scientific Dissemination to share critical information on various health research being conducted in the country.
The dissemination was attended by several dignitaries including; the Director General of the Ghana Health Service and his deputy, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye and Dr. Anthony Ofosu respectively, Director Family Health Division (GHS), Dr. Kofi Issa, Regional Directors of Health Services for the Greater Accra, Bono-East and Western North regions, Dr. Mrs. Charity Sarpong, Dr Fred Adumaku-Boateng and Dr. Mariam Okoh-Owusu respectively, Director of  Research and Development Division (RDD-GHS), Dr. Abraham Oduro and former Director of the RDD, Dr. Abraham Hodgson. Also in attendance were the Directors of the three Health Research Centre under the RDD, namely Navrongo, Kintampo and Dodowa Health Research Centres, programme managers from the Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) and National AIDS and STIs Control and Deputy Directors of the various Divisions at the Ghana Health Service.
