THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DIVISION (RDD) HOSTS A TWO-DAY HEALTH RESEARCH DISSEMINATION FORUM

In a significant event that shows the importance of healthcare research in Ghana, the Research and Development Division (RDD) hosted a two-day Research Dissemination Forum on September 6 and 7, 2023.

The event held at the Medical Simulation and Training Center of the University of Ghana Medical Centre on the theme, “Fostering Collaboration in Evidence Generation for Improved Service Delivery” brought together leading healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers to share their latest findings and insights on various studies and health-related topics.

The opening day of the forum which was Tuesday, September 6th kicked off with an orientation for research officers and scientists from the three Centres under the RDD.

On the first day of the event, Dr. Abraham Oduro, the Director of the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service in his opening presentation, shed light on the state of research in the Ghana Health Service highlighting the numerous initiatives that have contributed to health care delivery across the nation.

The first day of the event featured presentations from leading researchers on health-related topics ranging from non-communicable diseases, maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, and Infectious Diseases to Environmental Health.

Further discussions during the first day of the dissemination centred on research opportunities in public health programs, infectious diseases, health systems and health research ethics. These presentations highlighted the growing importance of collaborative efforts in addressing health challenges in Ghana and emerging issues in health research ethics with particular emphasis on the importance of conducting research with the highest ethical standards.

 

Among the highlights of the first day’s activities included the need for a plan for a national dissemination forum which will provide a platform for all the institutions involved in health research in Ghana to share findings and articulate feasible plans towards the improvement of health service delivery. Additionally, the development of a national research policy with the objective of streamlining health research in Ghana, capacity building for staff so as to ensure that research becomes an integral part of service delivery and a drive to mobilize resources and take advantage of existing resources to enhance research was highlighted as the way to go towards improving service delivery.

NHRC’s PARTICIPATION AT THE RDD 2023 DISSEMINATION

Thirteen staff members from the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) showcased their remarkable contributions to the field of health research during the 2023 Health Research Dissemination.

During the dissemination, which lasted for two days, staff from NHRC presented their research findings and ongoing studies, addressing crucial healthcare issues prevalent in the Sub-region and Ghana as a whole.

The diverse range of topics presented by Navrongo Health Research Centre staff indicated their commitment to improving healthcare and advancing medical knowledge in Ghana.

The 2023 Health Research Dissemination event was a resounding success, with the Navrongo Health Research Centre staff playing a pivotal role in sharing innovative research findings that have the potential to transform healthcare in Ghana. Their dedication and expertise are invaluable assets in the pursuit of better health outcomes.
